Streaming Audio from your Android Devices
Unlike an iPhone, which pauses the music whenever the phone rings, Android allows you to continue streaming your music whilst you make and receive phone calls. The two are kept separate, so there is no need to worry about the phone call being heard by the people listening to your AQ SmartSpeaker, so your friends can party on whilst you chat.
Once you have downloaded the AQ Play App from the Google Play Store, make sure your Android device and the AQ SmartSpeaker are connected to the same wireless network, then open the App.
Once the App has connected to your network, you will be presented with a screen giving three sections. The first two allow you to choose a media source and a playback device. The third allows you to choose a specific album or track, and shows the playback controls.
First, select a music source from the first screen - you can either choose your local device, or a compatible networked media library. To access internet streaming services such as SoundCloud or Rdio, choose "Channels" from the top, and select the service you want (NOTE: Access to streaming services requires a free Skifta account - If you don't have one, you will be asked to create one)
With a Skifta account, you can also install Skifta on your PC, which will enable you to stream your media library over your home network, and even connect it to the internet, so you can access your entire music library from your Android Device when you aren't at home - all you need is an internet connection. once you have set up your PC, you can connect to it by going to the "remote" tab at the top of the music source selection screen.
Next, choose the AQ SmartSpeaker from the Playback Devices list, there may be other compatible devices in this list, depending on what else is connected to the network.
Finally, go to the third section to browse your music library or list of available streams to choose what you want to play. Once you have selected the track or stream you want to play, the App will show you the playback controls and the music will start playing through the AQ SmartSpeaker™
Using the AQ SmartSpeaker™ has never been easier. With AQ DIRECT Mode, you can connect directly to the speaker from your Android device without needing a wireless router - so you can now use the AQ SmartSpeaker™ wirelessly anywhere you want - in the garden, in the park, at a mate's house, and even whilst on holiday, wherever you go to.
There's no complicated setup procedure, simply press the power button twice and then connect to the speaker's built-in Wi-Fi network using your device. You can then start playing your music as normal. The AQ SmartSpeaker™ will remember your Wi-Fi settings, so you can simply switch back when you get home.
By default, there is no password on the AQ DIRECT Network, but you can add one if you want, which will prevent people from streaming their music to your AQ SmartSpeaker™ if you are in a public place. Please see the full user manual, available from the support section for complete instructions on how to do this.
